The Designer.

Like many, my inspiration for design often comes in the least expecting locations or moments, this teaches me to document, collect and absorb my surroundings. I am a big fan of quirks and off-key elements in design, whether that’s a discordant colour or contradicting motifs, I like to add another layer, be it ironic.

I trained in surface pattern design at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where I graduated in 2012 with a first class BA (Hons) degree. Both in education and in my later employment I have had a tendency to design for the interior market, exploring; wallpapers, furnishing fabrics, homeware products, bedding and floor textiles. However I feel that there is often a strong link between styles on the catwalk and living trends. Exploring this cross over I have designed collections for interiors, inspired by fashion and vice- versa.

Since Graduating I have worked on various self-led projects as well as showcasing and selling my work through boutique outlets such as; The Natural Curtain Company, Kings road London & Perry Nelvill.

In 2014 I then went on to creatively co-direct and build a high-end interior textile brand; Sacha Pierre. Here, I built and developed relationships with a range of suppliers and makers. This included sourcing, buying, research and trade show trips to Asia and Europe. It was here where I developed an understanding of the processes of large scale manufacturing across a range of mediums including; weave, digital & screen print, fabric manipulation, embroidery, laser cutting, knit and leatherwork and a range of products; soft furnishings, bedding, floor textiles, furniture and fashion.

Although I was learning more about the commercial side of surface pattern design, my love for screen-printing meant that I continued to teach 1 day workshops on the subject at Bristol Sewing School, something which I have sustained since graduating.

I am currently overseas; being inspired by and documenting the colour and culture of Asia and the HD imagery of New Zealand.
